San Diego Padres star Yu Darvish needs no introduction to the world of Baseball. The Japanese pitcher has one of the best records for most strikeouts in the history of Baseball. Back in February 2023, Darvish was signed by the San Diego Padres for a six-year deal with a $108 million contract extension.
Recently, the San Diego Padres pitcher spilled the beans about his camaraderie with fellow Baseball player Yusei Kikuchi from the Los Angeles Angels.
Yu Darvish Talks About Getting Drunk With Los Angeles Angels Pitcher Yusei Kikuchi
During the current Baseball offseason, Japanese athletes Yu Darvish and Yusei Kikuchi are making the most of their time. The duo who are known for their great pitching skills bonded with each other over a few drinks recently. The San Diego Padres alum posted a picture of himself along with his fellow starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi on social media. The 38-year-old Baseball star captioned the picture in Japanese, on translating via Google it read as
“I had dinner with the Kikuchi couple while they were on vacation at the end of last year. We had a lively and fun time together with both families in the house we rented. Kikuchi drank most of the Hibiki that he brought with him, and eventually passed out drunk. He couldn’t find an Uber to take us home, so he ended up staying the night,”
The duo had a crazy session as according to Yu Darvish, Kikuchi had ended up drinking too much and even passed out. As the Los Angeles Angels star could not find an Uber, he was left with no option but to stay back at Darvish’s place.
Yu Darvish On His Wish To Play With Roki Sasaki
Yu Darvish’s enigmatic personality is more than enough when it comes to making an impression. As reported by the reputed media outlet The Athletic back in December 2024, Darvish expressed his desire to play with Sasaki in the San Diego Padres. After translating by the interpreter Shingo Hori of Roki Sasaki’s free agency, he said-
“I think it’s a good thing if he were to come to San Diego. Just for myself personally, if it does happen, yeah, it’s a great thing for me as well. But we’ll see how things shake out.”
Darvish believes that the 23-year-old should make his own decisions with respect to his preferences in the MLB. He said-
“I don’t think there’s much that I can do. He knows what he wants, he’ll make his decision, and I’m sure there’s going to be a couple of meetings coming up for him. And that will give him an opportunity to see what organizations are like. I’m sure he’s going to make his decision, and we’ll all be respectful of that.”
Roki Sasaki has idolized the Japanese pitcher from the start of his induction into the MLB. Darvish is one of the most prominent faces who went on to pave the path of Japanese starting pitchers in the Baseball leagues.
