The Kansas City Chiefs are playing their second straight Christmas Day game and rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy gave the Chiefs an early lead as he found the end zone on the first drive of the game to put the team up 6-0. Patrick Mahomes found Worthy for a 7-yard passing touchdown, but shortly after the Chiefs were hit with a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Needless to say, viewers stormd social media to slam referees and root for Worthy. So, who is the WR who is helping create a wave of support for the team and what is his net worth?
Who’s Xavier Worthy Whose Christmas-Themed Celebrations Were Out During The Netflix Live Streaming?
As the wide receiver and his teammate were engaged in a holiday-themed celebration where Worthy was putting presents in bags Isiah Pacheco was miming like he was catching them. He then put the bag of gifts over his shoulder and ran away in a cheeky way resembling the Grinch.
Although netizens were surprised at the referees’ reaction, a replay from the Netflix broadcast showed a different angle and Worthy is seen lifting up the side of his jersey, to make a joke about supposedly carrying a weapon. The NFL has been big on flagging weapons-related celebrations and that’s probably what earned Worthy unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
Worthy who ranked 13th among wide receivers nationally had a stellar college career and in 2021, he was honored as a Freshman All-American and the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year. He earned first-team All-Big 12 honors in 2021 and 2023, and second-team honors in 2022.
The 21-year-old net worth is roughly worth $21.4 million with a roster value of $536K. Worthy has secured three NIL deals, including partnerships with Fortnite and Sonic, and his endorsement earnings amount to $229K. “NIL” stands for “name, image and likeness” and refers to a person’s legal right to control how their image is used, including commercially.
Worthy has a solid commercial presence as he had a pretty key role in promoting Fortnite’s Zero Build Mode. His remarkable speed was highlighted at the 2024 NFL Combine, where he broke the 40-yard dash record with a time of 4.21 seconds. He’s also a terrific route runner and is a quick-twitch player at his core, which means he has a high proportion of fast-twitch muscle fibres in their body which helps him with his agility training. He can erupt off the line of scrimmage and kick into high gear almost immediately.
Worthy was listed on Kansas City’s injury report this week but he was a full participant in all of Kansas City’s practices this week after sustaining an ankle injury in the Saturday game against the Texans. But he is not missing any time and is back in the field for the big Christmas Day clash.
