Will Patrick Mahomes play against the Denver Broncos tonight? Latest injury update on the Kansas City Chiefs star player

Patrick Mahomes, though playing through injury, has guided the Kansas City Chiefs to a 15-1 record and the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The Chiefs would have to get Mahomes at his best when his ankle will come into play as they face potential rivals such as the Buffalo Bills or Baltimore Ravens. Andy Reid just made his most critical decision so far regarding Mahomes with serious implications for many AFC teams as the Chiefs take on the Broncos. So, the question remains whether or not Patrick Mahomes is playing the game tonight?

Will Patrick Mahomes play against the Denver Broncos tonight?

No, Patrick Mahomes will not be playing against the Denver Broncos tonight. Mahomes will sit out against the Broncos as Andy Reid has decided to rest him before the start of the postseason. The Kansas City Chiefs have secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC, preventing them from participating in the Wild Card round.
Andy Reid confirmed that Carson Wentz will replace Mahomes for Kansas City’s final regular season match-up. Wentz has only appeared twice this season, with only 20 passing yards, and has seen minimal action behind Mahomes.

Mahomes and his Chiefs may have as many as 25 days between their final regular-season game with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City’s eventual Divisional Round appearance in the postseason, where they are heavy Super Bowl favorites, a feat that no team has ever accomplished for three years straight in the history of the National Football League. The Chiefs have planned to take their starters into Week 18 before giving them an extended week off until the Divisional Round. Mahomes is not projected to be held out past Week 18.

Patrick Mahomes on his ankle injury

Patrick Mahomes told reporters that he had a minor ankle injury, not as severe as a high-ankle sprain he suffered in the 2023 playoffs, and that his ankle has responded well to treatment. “Obviously it’s a short amount of time but I thought we had a good day yesterday and good work after the game as well,” Mahomes said. “That’s the reason you play this game,” Mahomes said. “I’ll get the work at practice and try to push it to see where I can get to.”

β€œAt the end of the day, I’m not going to put our team in a bad position,” Mahomes said. “Carson will be ready to go as well,” Mahomes said. “He prepares as good as anyone I’ve ever been around.”
