When ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ hit theaters in 2016, the camaraderie between its lead stars, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, was a major highlight of the film’s promotions. Their playful banter in several interviews stole the show and some of those clips have gone viral on social media even now, many years later.
During an interview, the two actors shared playful banter, but Ranbir took the conversation to an unexpected turn with a surprising revelation.Ranbir called Anushka the undisputed “champion” of friend-zoning during a chat with Mastii, humorously noting how effortlessly she placed her male friends in the platonic zone. But that wasn’t all. He revealed that one of Anushka’s actor friends, who also happened to share his Kapoor surname, had fallen in love with her. The candid confession left Anushka visibly startled, while the audience and their co-stars erupted in laughter.
Ranbir described the situation humorously, saying, “Accha, iske saath mujhe pata hai, jo acchi dosti dosti mein unko isse pyaar ho gaya hai. Aur unhone bola ki, ‘Nahi yaar, aisa kuch nahi, main dosti hoon.’ Main sirf yeh bol dunga uska bhi surname Kapoor hai.”
Anushka, quick to clarify and provide perspective, shared insights into her upbringing. Growing up in an army household, where her father served in the armed forces, Anushka said she naturally bonded with people irrespective of their gender. “Main na army background se aati hoon. Toh kya hai ki hum log… Meri aisa hi nahi thi ki meri ladkiya hi friends thi. Hum log kitchen sets ke saath khelte the. Aisa nahi tha. Toh hum log matlab… ladhko ke saath khelte the,” she explained.
