Vijay Hazare Trophy: Shivam Dube to miss Mumbai’s last 2 matches

MUMBAI: India’s white-ball all-rounder Shivam Dube will miss Mumbai’s last two league matches of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy in Ahmedabad as he will be on a paternity break- he is due to become a father for the second time. Dube and his wife Anjum Khan were blessed with a son, Ayaan, on Feb 13, 2022.
“Yes, he has requested for a leave as he’s due to become a father again in a short time. As we already have 16 players in the squad, there’ll be no replacement for Dube,” a source in the Mumbai Cricket Association told TOI on Thursday.
Mumbai play Puducherry at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, and then take on Saurashtra in their last league match on Sunday. Skipper Shreyas Iyer and India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, who rested for Mumbai’s last match against Nagaland, are set to return to the XI for the team’s final two, must-win games.
Having won three matches out of five and lost two, Mumbai, with 12 points in five outings, are placed third on the table. With Punjab and Karnataka, who both beat Mumbai, ahead of them in the table, the reigning Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali T20- Trophy champions have only slim hopes of qualifying for the knockouts.
A regular with the Chennai Super KIngs, Dube has scored 80 runs in three matches in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy @80.00. The 31-year-old has played four ODIs and 33 T20Is for India.
