Vidhu Vinod Chopra is known for his energetic and positive personality, as seen in his films and interviews, especially around the release of his recent hit, 12th Fail.
However, in an interview with NDTV, he shared a difficult and dark period from his life. The veteran filmmaker opened up about a time in his life when he was on the brink of suicide. He shared that he had become disillusioned and was standing on the Lonavala highway, ready to end it all. However, the love and support of his family stopped him from taking that step. This happened during the period after Sazaye Maut and while he was writing Khamoshi.
Vidhu further explained that this was the moment he decided to start over, He emphasised the importance of sharing his story with the world, saying that those who know him now might be surprised by his past struggles. He shared that it’s okay to go through tough times and that it’s a battle worth fighting, whether you win or lose. The true joy, he believes, lies in the fight itself, not the outcome.
Zero Se Restart, which was released recently, didn’t gain much attention, and the filmmaker openly acknowledged the documentary’s lack of success. He also made a strong criticism of the marketing and publicity surrounding it, pointing out how they often spread false information about box-office earnings.
