Tom Brady is being questioned about his dual roles in the team as the Raiders search for a new head coach

The Las Vegas Raiders, like many teams that retain interim head coaches, are unhappy with Antonio Pierce’s performance after just one season. They dismissed Pierce on Tuesday, despite making him give an end-of-season press conference before he was informed of his status. Pierce’s success relied on not being the unlikable full-time head coach.
Pierce’s dismissal raises questions about Tom Brady’s role in the NFL and his involvement in the coaching search. As he prepares to broadcast significant playoff games, including the Super Bowl, it is unclear whether head coaches will stay away due to Brady’s involvement in business practices.

Tom Brady will have a significant role in choosing a head coach for the Raiders

The 2024 NFL regular season has come to a close, and Tom Brady’s involvement in football operations is gaining attention. The former NFL quarterback was approved as a Raiders minority owner and has implemented special rules for his Fox Sports broadcasting role. According to reports, Brady will have a significant role in choosing a head coach for the team after firing Antonio Pierce.
“The Las Vegas Raiders have relieved Antonio Pierce of his duties as head coach,” the team said in a statement on Tuesday. “We appreciate Antonio’s leadership, first as an interim head coach and this past season as the head coach. Antonio grew up a Raiders fan and his Silver and Black roots run deep. We are grateful for his ability to reignite what it means to be a Raider throughout the entire organization. We wish nothing but the best for Antonio and his family in the future.”
Adam Schefter shared a post suggesting Brady will be part of a “collaborative committee” to interview coaching candidates. Raiders owner Mark Davis expects Brady to have a say in the team’s future in the direction it heads, as they finished 4-13 with the No. 6 draft pick in 2025.
The controversy surrounds Brady’s new role, which falls into his 10-year, $375 million Fox broadcasting contract. Although coaching search functions are not forbidden, they might create a potential conflict if the Raiders target Lions coordinators Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson or Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, and Brady is announcing one or more of their teams’ playoff games over the next weeks.

Brady will be part of Fox’s Super Bowl LIX production in New Orleans, the largest event in U.S. television and a corporate priority for Fox Corp. His booth performance has improved significantly in the second half of the season, as preparations continue.

Former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, a former teammate of Brady, is reportedly a strong candidate for the Raiders coaching job, but will also interview for the Patriots’ vacant head coaching job alongside several others.
