The 2024-25 Chiefs have performed much better this season, failing to score 30 points in a game and thus making it one of the three franchises in that regard. Still, their record is miles ahead of those two. For Cincinnati Bengals fans, Week 18 ended any playoff hopes thanks to the Kansas City Chiefs, as Skip Bayless says they made it intentional.
Skip Bayless slammed the Chiefs for their loss against the Broncos
Skip Bayless of the YouTube show attacked Kansas City for being “apparently prideless” because of their recent loss against the Denver Broncos, stating that they were avoiding winning to prevent their biggest playoff rivals from reaching the playoffs.
He said, “Why do I believe Andy Reid made sure his team had no chance of pulling off any kind of shocking underdog upset? Because no way did the Chiefs want to be responsible for opening the backdoor of the playoffs to Joe Burrow and the Bengals. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid and the Chiefs are scared to death of Joe Burrow.”
Cincinnati required a Broncos loss to win the AFC’s No. 7 seed, but Denver (10-7) locked it up and will travel to the No. 2 seed Buffalo Bills with a 38-0 win over Kansas City, who were benched and outgained by 174 yards in the first quarter. Bayless has previously implied Kansas City was nefarious, and many X users have been concerned about Burrow during the Broncos’ blowout victory. Fans of the Chiefs pointed out Reid and Co. resting players ahead of the game that became the Bengals’ lifeline into the playoffs.
The same Burrow has been thrown about often in every conversation regarding Mahomes’ playoff history, being the only signal-caller to defeat Mahomes in the playoffs and winning more games than he lost to Mahomes. Kansas City would not necessarily want to draw him in their third straight Super Bowl.
Kansas City sat Mahomes in Week 18 because they knew they had secured a playoff seeding, and they didn’t want to ruin their chances against Burrow and the Bengals fans. But this season, Burrow led the league in passing yards and touchdowns, and his performances have compelled Bayless to claim him as the NFL’s best and toughest passer. That Week 18 decision by the Chiefs has nothing to do with Burrow’s possible appearance.

The Bengals have started reorganizing for 2025, firing defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, offensive line coach Frank Pollack, linebackers coach James Betcher, and defensive line coach Marion Hobby. This is coming at a time when Cincinnati is ranked 25th in points allowed per game and sixth-most points per contest per contest.
