NEW DELHI: The BCCI declared on Monday that bowler Renuka Singh Thakur and captain Harmanpreet Kaur would be rested for the three-match home ODI series against Ireland.
In Harmanpreet’s absence, opener Smriti Mandhana will captain the team in the series starting in Rajkot on January 10.
After suffering a knee injury during last month’s home series against the West Indies, Harmanpreet was forced to miss the final two Twenty20 Internationals before making a comeback to play three One-Day Internationals.
The 35-year-old had previously suffered a neck injury in the Women’s T20 World Cup match against Pakistan in Dubai in October of last year.
After claiming 10 wickets in three games, lead pacer Renuka was named the player of the series in the one-dayers against the West Indies.
She has previously experienced back pain from a stress fracture, so resting her for the series against Ireland may be an attempt to reduce her burden.
India squad: Smriti Mandhana (C), Deepti Sharma (VC), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Uma Chetry (wk), Richa Ghosh (wk), Tejal Hasabnis, Raghvi Bist, Minnu Mani, Priya Mishra, Tanuja Kanwer, Titas Sadhu, Saima Thakor, Sayali Satghare
Schedule (All matches in Rajkot, starts at 11 AM):
- 1st ODI: January 10
- 2nd ODI: January 12
- 3rd ODI: January 15
