R Madhavan, who became widely known as the ‘chocolate boy’ of the industry during his early 2000s debut, has since become one of Bollywood’s most versatile actors. Despite more than 25 years in the film industry, the actor’s fitness and charm continue to captivate fans. Recently, Madhavan shared the amusing backstory behind the viral shirtless selfie he posted in 2017 and the reaction it sparked from his wife, Sarita.
In an interview with Miss Malini, the Tanu Weds Manu actor explained that the selfie came about quite spontaneously when he was speaking to Sarita. “My wife asked me if I had lost weight, and I said, ‘No, no, I’m shooting for Vikram Vedha.’ So, I went to the window, took a selfie, and sent it to her saying, ‘Patla ho gaya hu bhai,'” he recalled.
Though the photo was initially meant just for Sarita, Madhavan admitted that he liked how he looked in it and decided to post it on Twitter. At the time, there was no concept of ‘breaking the internet,’ but when he later learned that his selfie had gone viral, he was taken by surprise. “Everyone was telling me, ‘Yeh toh viral ho gaya!’ and I didn’t even know what viral meant back then,” he shared.
However, his wife was not pleased with his decision to share the picture. Madhavan recalled Sarita’s reaction, saying, “My wife said, ‘Now behave your age! Yeh kya kar raha hai, aise nanga photo-voto daal ke?'”
Before his acting career took off, R Madhavan worked as a communication and public speaking coach, where he met Sarita, who was training to become an air hostess. The two began dating and eventually married in 1999 in a traditional Tamil wedding. They have a son, Vedaant, and have been happily married ever since.
