Mel Gibson says President Donald Trump’s visit to Los Angeles amid wildfire relief efforts is “like daddy arrived.”
The “Daddy’s Home 2” star made the comments during a Friday interview on FOX News’ “Hannity” with host Sean Hannity.
“I’m glad Trump’s here at the moment,” Gibson continued. “It’s like daddy arrived and he’s taking his belt off, you know? So, I think he’ll get some results here quickly.”
Trump was greeted by California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday for a tour of devastation left in the wake of the wildfires, which ravaged parts of the Southern California region. In recent weeks, Trump has slammed Newsom, who he commonly refers to as “Newscum,” for his state administration’s handling of the wildfire crisis.

Gibson’s “daddy” comments came after Hannity asked him “How bad has it been?”
After Hannity argued that it must be “frustrating” for Californians, Gibson replied that his neighbors are “a good bunch.”
Gibson added that “you meet people all the time who’ve lost their homes. And you talk and commiserate and buck each other up, and everyone’s putting on a brave face. They’re a good bunch out here.”
Donald Trump previously named Mel Gibson ‘special ambassador’ to Hollywood
On Jan. 16, Trump took to social platform Truth Social to name Gibson a “special ambassador” to Hollywood alongside fellow right-leaning actors Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone.
“It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California,” Trump wrote Thursday. “They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!”

He continued: “These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!”
In a statement to USA TODAY, Gibson said he “got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised. Nevertheless, I heed the call. My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can.”
“Any chance the position comes with an Ambassador’s residence?” Gibson jokingly continued.
