Kangana Ranaut is set to make an appearance on the big screen with her portrayal of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the upcoming film ‘Emergency’. The film, directed and co-produced by Kangana herself, is scheduled for release on January 17, 2025. Recently, she shared a glimpse of her transformation into Indira Gandhi.
In a behind-the-scenes video, Kangana showed her remarkable makeover, highlighting her striking look as she embodies one of the most influential figures in Indian history. Dressed in a white saree and adorned with elegant jewellery, she captures the essence of Indira Gandhi, who was known for her strong leadership during a tumultuous period in the country. Kangana credited her award-winning makeup artist, Dennis Malinowski, for his exceptional work in creating this jaw-dropping transformation.

The film ‘Emergency’ focuses on the controversial 21-month period of emergency rule imposed by Indira Gandhi from 1975 to 1977. This intense political thriller explores the complexities and challenges faced during this dark chapter in Indian history. The trailer reveals gripping scenes where Kangana’s character asserts her authority, declaring herself the cabinet and making bold decisions that lead to chaos and conflict within the nation.
The cast also includes Anupam Kher, who plays Jayaprakash Narayan, and Shreyas Talpade as the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
