It was a big night for rap heavyweight Kendrick Lamar, who walked away with five trophies, including two in the “Big Four” categories at the 67th Grammy Awards Sunday night.
The Compton MC is among the most awarded rap artists in the show’s history, with 57 nominations and 22 wins throughout his music career.
The recognition follows a triumphant 2024 amid the revival of heated, long-standing rap battle against Drake. Critics proclaimed him victorious after the success of his Grammy-nominated diss track “Not Like Us” and his explosive “The Pop Out” concert on Juneteenth in Los Angeles.
The “DAMN” rapper’s wins didn’t stop there, though. In the fall, the NFL announced that he would be headlining the halftime show at Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans next week, later adding his former Top Dawg Entertainment labelmate SZA to the bill, which fans believe will be a taste of their upcoming tour. And in November, he surprised dropped his sixth studio album, “GNX,” with hit songs like “Wacced Out Murals,” “Squabble Up,” and “TV Off.”
