No one loves a classic co-ord than Travis Kelce. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end showed up for the Christmas Day doubleheader wearing a fuzzy sand-coloured co-ord and a Santa hat. However, fans were quick to rush to the comments section to talk about his look. While some fans commented that Kelce’s girlfriend, Grammy winner Taylor Swift has had a good impact on his fashion senses, some fans called him ‘washed.’
Fans Flock To NFL Style Account To Call Travis Kelce ‘Washed.’ Here’s Why
The NFL and NFL Style shared Kelce’s pictures on Instagram, where he could be seen walking toward the locker room in a Christmas Day outfit. The post features a side-by-side comparison of Kelce’s 2023 and 2024 Christmas Day looks. Unlike this year, last year Kelce went for a dynamic Letterman jacket with leather sleeves which he had layered with a cable knit sweater underneath. The only thing which is consistent in both years is his Santa hat!
While some fans compared him to a teddy bear, some naysayers shared some negative feedback. “He’s washed,” commented one fan. It’s no secret that Kelce is having a difficult season. He signed a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs that made him the highest-paid tight end in the entire league but is now averaging a career-low 8.4 yards per catch.
“For most of Travis Kelce’s career, the Chiefs have known that if they got him the ball, he was good for about 12 or 13 yards: From Kelce’s first season as the Chiefs’ starting tight end in 2014 through 2022, Kelce averaged somewhere between 12.2 and 13.5 yards per catch every year. That is no longer the case,” Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk said.
“In 2023, Kelce’s yards per catch average dropped significantly, to a career-low 10.6 yards. And this year, Kelce’s average has dropped significantly again, all the way down to 8.4 yards per catch, by far the worst mark of his career,” he added.
To make things even dicier, the Kansas City Chiefs signed veteran tight end Robert Tonyan to their practice squad ahead of their Christmas day game against the Pittsburgh Steelers which can affect tight end Travis Kelce’s role in the team. Although Tonyan has been assigned to the practice squad and may have been bought in as backup, fans couldn’t help but speculate about Kelce’s positioning within the team.
Kelce is currently tied with Tony Gonzalez for the most touchdowns in Chiefs history with 76. Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had something interesting to say about Kelce and seemed to defend Kelce amid the backlash he’s received about having a bad season.
Tomlin shared that the shift in Kelce’s stats shows how much unrecognised work he is doing for his team. ‘He is an unbelievably unselfish player, I don’t think he gets enough credit for that,’ Tomlin said. “Big playmaker certainly but really impressed with the unselfishness of his play,” he added.
