From Setback to Stardom: Travis Kelce Spoke about the Turning Point of His NFL Career
The whole world has been gripped in awe as Travis Kelce’s meteoric ascent towards stardom got further fuelled by the public romance with Taylor Swift. However, this is not devoid of dark phases, since the road to stardom has always been paved with challenges which made Kelce fight his own demons and embrace a regime of discipline.
At the beginning of his career, stumbling blocks started appearing in his way, but he could have managed to overcome them. While still in 2010, at the University of Cincinnati, true turmoil fell on Kelce when he was supposed to face his battles. One of which suspends him from college football completely for a whole year due to marijuana. The other is loss of scholarship, which results in forced work of eight dollars in telemarketing jobs for him.
According to ESPN’s Elizabeth Merrill, reflecting on this period, Kelce admitted, “The light at the end of the tunnel was that if I do what I’m supposed to do instead of being a knucklehead, I can have a way better life than this.”
He added, “All I had been doing is playing outside, playing sports my entire life. I had never sat down and tried to earn a living like that. That’s not to hit on anybody’s 9-to-5. That’s just not for me.”
With renewed discipline and focus, Kelce returned to the field with a steely resolve. His last college season displayed the promise he had, and that promise prompted the Kansas City Chiefs to recruit him in the 2013 NFL Draft. He has built himself into a strong foundation within the Chiefs’ very successful roster, culminating in multiple Pro Bowl honors and multiple Super Bowl titles for the team.
Outside of football, he has been seen on reality shows and scripted television, including appearances on Catching Kelce on E!, hosting the March 5, 2023, episode of Saturday Night Live, and in advertisements. He co-hosts the podcast New Heights with his brother Jason, covering everything from football to pop culture.
