NEW DELHI: Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is making progress in recovery after having undergone a lower spine surgery last year.
The 25-year-old on Wednesday shared an update on his Instagram, showing himself running and training at the WACA Ground in Perth.
Green missed the Australian summer and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India due to a recurring lower back stress fracture. It was the fifth time Green experienced the injury, after which he opted for the surgery.
Green underwent surgery in October 2024 in Christchurch, New Zealand. The procedure was performed by renowned orthopaedic spine surgeons Grahame Inglis and Rowan Schouten.
The Green recovery update was met with support from the cricketing community.
Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, Green’s Mumbai Indians teammate, commented, “Can’t wait boyyyyyyyyyy”.
Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne and Western Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly also reacted positively with emojis.
There is optimism that Green may be fit for the World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord’s in June.
If not, he could potentially join Australia’s three-Test tour of the Caribbean later that same summer. The tour is scheduled for June and July.
The World Test Championship final holds significant importance for Australia, providing an opportunity to defend their title. Green’s presence as an all-rounder would boost the team’s balance.
