Tollywood superstar Allu Arjun appeared at the Chikkadpally Police Station on Tuesday for questioning regarding the tragic stampede that occurred during the screening of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre. The incident claimed the life of a young mother and left her minor son critically injured.
Sitting alongside police officials, Allu Arjun faced direct questions regarding the event’s circumstances.
According to our sources, the police asked, “Were you aware of the theatre situation?” and further probed, “Do you have a copy of the permission?” These queries aim to establish the actor’s level of involvement and knowledge about the safety measures at the event.
The stampede, which occurred on December 4, has spiraled into a larger controversy, intensified by protests outside Allu Arjun’s residence on Sunday. Members of the Osmania University – Joint Action Committee (OU-JAC) staged demonstrations demanding justice for the victim’s family, throwing tomatoes and causing property damage. Six protesters were arrested and later released on bail.
Political parties have also weighed in, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) accusing the ruling Congress government of mishandling the situation. They allege that some protesters involved in vandalizing the actor’s home are linked to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal assembly constituency.
The Congress, however, has denied any bias against the film industry. Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, along with the film’s producers, announced Rs 50 lakh in compensation to the deceased woman’s family.
Police have hinted that Allu Arjun may be taken to Sandhya Theatre for on-site verification. Despite the mounting pressure, the actor has cooperated fully, expressing his commitment to aiding the investigation.
According to the latest information obtained by ETimes, the crime scene will be recreated at the Sandhya theatre. This aims to bring out key details from the scene.
