Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya recently claimed on Indian Idol that he suggested Shah Rukh Khan record the final line of ‘I Am The Best‘ from Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani. However, composer Lalit Pandit countered, stating it was Shah Rukh’s own idea, as he was present during the recording.
During the show, Abhijeet recalled suggesting Shah Rukh record the line “Oh yeah, I am the best” for the song. He mentioned that Shah Rukh quickly came to the studio and recorded it. However, Lalit Pandit humorously disputed this, saying the story had been reversed, implying it was Shah Rukh’s idea.
Lalit, co-composer of the song, stated that Shah Rukh was present during the recording and vividly remembered every detail of the process. Abhijeet, feeling mildly offended, questioned if he was being doubted. Lalit clarified he was sharing his own recollection of Shah Rukh’s input, while Abhijeet expressed embarrassment.
The composer further shared that SRK contributed to the final bit of ‘I Am The Best’ after suggesting a specific style. Despite multiple attempts by Abhijeet, Shah Rukh offered to perform it himself and nailed it in a single take, demonstrating his clear vision for the song’s delivery.
As Abhijeet persistently questioned if he was lying, Lalit humorously dismissed it, saying, “Don’t exaggerate when I’m sitting right here,” adding a lighthearted note to the discussion.
In recent weeks, Abhijeet Bhattacharya has openly expressed his displeasure about his songs being labeled as ‘Shah Rukh Khan’s songs.’ He shared that this misattribution has hurt him and mentioned that Shah Rukh is aware of his feelings on the matter.
