Junaid Khan, whose romantic drama Loveyapa, co-starring Khushi Kapoor, is set to hit theatres on February 7, recently admitted that he felt miscast in the film. In an interview, Aamir Khan’s son recalled questioning director Advait Chandan about his casting decision.
Speaking to Screen, Junaid said, “I was a bit surprised that they wanted me because I felt like my personality was so far away from the character. I asked him if he was sure he wanted me to play the role.”
The 31-year-old actor further added, “I wouldn’t be casting me in this part, but Advait (Chandan) and Madhu (Mantena) sir seemed pretty confident.”
Loveyapa, a remake of the Tamil hit Love Today, marks the first theatrical release for both Junaid and Khushi Kapoor. Their debut films—Maharaj and The Archies—were released directly on Netflix.
In a previous interview, Junaid acknowledged the advantages of his privileged background. “Producers will cast me even without seeing any public presence. Not many actors have that. It’s purely because of the family I come from,” he told Radio Nasha.
Ahead of its release, a special screening of Loveyapa was held in Mumbai, attended by several stalwarts from the film industry, including veterans Dharmendra and Rekha. However, it was Rekha and Aamir Khan’s heartwarming gestures towards their seniors that stole the show.
Rekha, upon her arrival, bowed down and touched the feet of veteran filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi in a show of deep respect. The evergreen actress also shared a special moment with Aamir’s daughter, Ira Khan, who introduced her husband, Nupur Shikhare, to Rekha.
Adding to the evening’s warmth, Aamir Khan personally welcomed veteran actor Dharmendra as soon as he arrived. In a touching gesture, Aamir escorted Dharmendra inside the venue and respectfully touched his feet, seeking his blessings. Before heading in, the duo happily posed for photographs.
The screening was graced by several notable personalities, including cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali Tendulkar, political leader Raj Thackeray, and Bollywood’s power couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, who arrived hand in hand. Former cricketer Irfan Pathan was seen with his wife Safa, while actress Sagarika Ghatke attended with her husband, Zaheer Khan.
