“A nasty liar”: Dallas fans trashed Jerry Jones for the decision to prioritize Trey Lance's playing time at eleventh hour over Cooper Rush

Cooper Rush, 31, is the quarterback who might leave the Dallas Cowboys to join the Carolina Panthers to extend his NFL career. He would lose his job when Dak Prescott returns to AT&T Stadium next year, despite reviving Cowboys playoff hopes. Dallas’ Trey Lance replaced Rush in Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders, removing his potential $500,000 incentive bonus if he played 55% of the team’s offensive snaps this season.

Cowboys fans have exploded on Twitter calling out Jerry Jones

Dallas, averaging a total of 68 offensive snaps per game in its season so far, has had Lance Rush go 55.1% of the team snaps. But the staff is given utmost importance by the team, and Lance could not reach the limit for his incentive, according to Nick Harris from Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones did not know of the incentive after his side’s 23-19 loss, which shut down the 2024 season at 7-10.
“I didn’t even know about it. I didn’t even know about it until I read about it, so nothing at all. Those incentives are in there for the team. We put them in there so that if someone is, in his case, as the backup quarterback, has to play, he has the financial incentives. They’re usually put in there because of the people representing him. They should be. … He [Rush] did earn some pretty serious incentives this year.”
Jerry Jones, the octogenarian owner of the Cowboys, has been making headlines with helicopter landings and his diet choices. But fans are not buying his act of ignorance in the Cooper Rush case. The Cowboys fans have exploded on Twitter calling out the Cowboys management.

One user wrote, “I’m sorry I don’t believe this for a second. This is also pathetic. 250,000 Jerry spends more than this on fuel landing a helicopter at the Star.” Another wrote, “I’m honestly contemplating leaving the Cowboys as a fan, all because of Jerry Jones.” A third wrote, “He has become a nasty liar and a pathetic human being in his later years. They played Trey Lance to save the bonus money.”

Rush remained aggressive even after the injury of Prescott and led his team to a 4-4 record. He completed 60.7% of passes, totaling 1,844 yards with 12 touchdowns. Dallas also went four out of five games winning, including 34-26 on the road against the Washington Commanders. The Dallas Cowboys face a dilemma as head coach Mike McCarthy’s contract expires, and they must address their issues in 2024 by signing free agents in need.
