Younis’s impressive career statistics include 10,099 Test runs at an average exceeding 52 across 118 matches, 7,249 runs in 265 ODIs, and 442 runs in 25 T20Is. He holds the record for most Test centuries (34) for Pakistan, and his outstanding 313 against Sri Lanka at Karachi in 2009 elevated him to the top spot in ICC rankings.
Naseeb Khan, the ACB CEO, expressed satisfaction with securing Younis Khan as the interim mentor for the Champions Trophy 2025 and extended his best wishes for this important role.
“Since the Champions Trophy is being held in Pakistan, it was required to assign a talented and experienced player as mentor from the hosting country. We already had efficient experience with hosting countries’ mentors in ODI World Cup 2023 and T20I World Cup 2024. Observing the conditions, therefore, we have appointed Younis Khan as mentor for our national team for the upcoming mega event and wish him best of the luck in his crucial assignment,” Naseeb said.
The tournament features eight teams competing in 15 fifty-over matches across Pakistan and Dubai. The previous edition’s finalists, India and Pakistan, are scheduled to compete on February 23 in Dubai.
The Pakistani venues include Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi, with each hosting three group matches. Lahore is designated for the second semi-final.
The tournament final is scheduled for March 9 in Lahore, with a contingency plan to relocate to Dubai if India reaches the final. Reserve days are allocated for both semi-finals and the final.
The tournament commences with Pakistan facing New Zealand in Group A at Karachi on February 19, followed by India versus Bangladesh in Dubai the next day. Afghanistan begin its campaign against South Africa on February 21.
