Recently, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) between Delhi and Meerut. With this, travellers can now reach Meerut in just 40 minutes! This new RRTS is being called a game-changer for Delhi-Meerut connectivity and is a new transportation project aiming to improve connectivity between the two cities.
The new system marks a major leap in regional travel, drastically reducing travel times and boosting infrastructure. Let’s have a look at some of the prime features of the Namo Bharat RRTS:
Route and stations: The Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar section, which is 13 km long, was inaugurated and includes an underground stretch of 6 km.
Anand Vihar station in Delhi connects with the Delhi Metro’s Blue and Pink Lines and integrates with existing railway and bus terminals. The full corridor spans 55 km from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South, with 11 stations along the way.
Travel Time: The RRTS dramatically reduces travel time between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South to just 40 minutes, a major improvement over the previous journey time, which took nearly two-thirds longer.
Train Operations: The trains are running every 15 minutes, with regular services starting from 5 PM.
Tickets: Tickets for a full journey cost INR 150 for standard coaches and INR 225 for premium carriages.
Network: The complete RRTS corridor stretches 82 km from Sarai Kale Khan (Delhi) to Modipuram (Meerut), including 16 Namo Bharat stations and 9 Meerut Metro stations.
Infrastructure: This new system promises to enhance regional connectivity, offering a smooth, fast, and modern commuting option that is set to change how people travel in the National Capital Region (NCR).
During his journey, the PM interacted with passengers. There were young kids and female loco pilots. The children presented him with artwork, including a heartfelt poem by a young girl about the future of India. The PM was quite impressed and he praised the creativity of young minds. He also commended the female loco pilots, emphasising the significance of women in leadership and wishing them success in their roles.
With the introduction of RRTS between Delhi and Meerut, it is expected that the traffic will also ease on the route.
