ISPL: I haven't seen such a well organised tournament for tennis ball cricket, says RP Singh

NEW DELHI: Former India pacer RP Singh lauded ISPL Season-2, calling it the most well-organised tournament for tennis ball cricket he has ever seen.
RP Singh, who is commentating for ISPL, commended the smooth execution of the tournament and emphasized that young players can learn a great deal from playing tennis ball cricket and said, “I had never played an organised tennis-ball tournament, had played tennis-ball cricket as a kid but have never seen such a well-organized tournament. It has been a different experience for me, because there is structure and may shots that you have forgotten, that we had played in our younger days, get revived again. It was an amazing tournament and I am very happy and excited that I am here.”
RP Singh expressed his excitement about the tape ball swing, highlighting it as a standout feature of the event and on one player or moment that caught his eye, RP Singh said, “There are many things that are new, like the swing of the tape ball, all-rounders always stand out like there is Abhishek, who is also known as Karan Ambala, he is an exciting player.”
On the street to stadium concept of the tournament, RP Singh said, “Majority cricket is played in the streets and then reaches the stadium. The challenge is to organize the tournament, ISPL crossed that challenge and after selection and trails, it has reached this stage. It has been a long journey but a smooth one. The players are also blessed that they were a part of this organized process.”
Looking back at his own memories in tennis ball cricket RP Singh said, “As a kid everyone wants to become a fast bowler playing in the streets and he starts with a tennis ball. My journey from Rai Bareilly to international stadium was a long one but tennis ball is the medium with which to play on the ground because it doesn’t hurt and there is also team bonding, because of the game being small and you learn the plan to win in tennis ball cricket only.”
On the impact of tennis ball cricket on the game, RP Singh said, “Tennis ball cricket is as big as red ball cricket in India, but it is not organized. There is no place or district in the country where tennis ball cricket is not played. To bring that structure to the stadium was a challenge and the ISPL has done that and the players also become financially strong.”
On his message to the players, RP Singh said, “Sportspersons should enjoy the game and maintain discipline and keep improving to raise the bar and that would eventually help you in life.”
