Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is one of the most popular and talented players in Major League Baseball and yet he has found himself in a controversy related to his contract extension with his current team, the Toronto Blue Jays. Many fans and experts have also speculated that the Toronto Blue Jays might be looking into trading Vladimir Guerrero Jr. But it does not seem like thats the case, as per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Might Not Be Traded To The New York Mets But The Blue Jays Might Not Offer A Contract Extension, As Per Jon Heyman
While there were strong rumours of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. being traded to one of the strongest teams in MLB, the New York Mets, apparently, that is not going to happen as per Jon Heyman. Recently, Jon Heyman appeared on the Bleacher Report’s live stream on YouTube and said, “Vladdy is not getting traded. I just don’t believe that Toronto has any inclination to trade their best player.”
But that is not all; New York Post’s Jon Heyman also added that the Toronto Blue Jays will be trying to sign him within 17th February, just three days before Spring Training officially begins.
Jon Heyman also expressed that he is unsure if Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s current team, the Toronto Blue Jays, will actually end up signing a contract extension with him. He said, “Does that mean they are going to be able to sign him? I’m not so sure about that. These star players with one year to go are not often signed; they usually go to free agency.”
MLB Insider Sal Licata Had Spoken About The New York Met’s Interest In Vladimir Guerrero Jr. A Few Days Back
This speculation comes in just days after MLB insider Sal Licata spoke about Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s conversation with the Toronto Blue Jays in a recent video on WFAN; apparently, Vladimir has told the team that there will be no more discussions about a contract extension if he does not receive an extension offer on the first day the team reports for Spring Training.
Sal Licata had also spoken about how the New York Mets are pretty interested in Vladimir Guerrero Jr. so he might just be traded by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Things look pretty messy and confusing for the star player currently. Though he has consistently recorded exceptional performances on the field, in case he does not sign a deal with another team and the Blue Jays fail to offer him a contract extension, he will be entering free agency after the 2025 season of Major League Baseball.
Currently, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has maintained silence about these speculations and has not issued any official statements about this. With the Spring Training being just over two weeks away, tensions are on the rise for the star player’s future in the MLB.
