Following the season, Freeman had surgery in December to repair his sprained right ankle. During the surgery, debridement and removal of loose bodies were performed, thereby solving some of the issues that remained from the sprain. Freeman stated he waited for surgery because he felt okay after playing in the World Series and he believed more rest would reduce the swelling. However, after several weeks with no improvement, he sought medical advice, and an MRI revealed the need for surgery.
Now, eight weeks since the surgery, Freeman is back on the road to recovery. He’s hitting well and feels fine; however, he has yet to receive clearance to run.
